BANKED RESET · REDEEMABLE NOTE

What is a Codex banked reset?

A grant is a saved reset, not a usage refresh.

The direct answer

A banked reset is a Codex rate-limit reset saved to your account for later. Receiving one does not refresh your usage. When you redeem a full banked reset, both your 5-hour and weekly windows reset, and the weekly reset date moves to roughly seven days after redemption.

GRANTED → SAVED IN BANK → YOU REDEEM → 5H + WEEKLY RESET

codex-reset --banked

Track the next expiry

Copy the expiry shown under Usage limit resets in the Codex app or web Usage tab. This stores one earliest expiry, not a reset count.

Only know the referral grant time?

Use this only when your referral terms support a 30-day redemption window.

Estimate only; your offer/account is the source of truth.

Grant, redemption, and automatic reset are different events

The word reset describes both a saved right and the later quota change. The timing is what separates them.

Banked lifecycle states

These states describe a public banked-reset update. They do not reveal your eligibility, inventory, or whether you redeemed anything.

How to redeem the reset shown in your account

The Codex app and the web analytics Usage tab now use the same account-facing labels.

Usage limit resets
Use a reset to restore your 5-hour limit, weekly limit, or both.
Full reset · Use reset
  1. Codex app: open the profile menu, then the usage summary.
  2. Web: open Codex and Work Analytics, then select the Usage tab.
  3. Find Usage limit resets and review the Full reset expiry shown for your account.
  4. Choose Use reset only when you want the listed 5-hour, weekly, or both windows restored.

codex-reset --weekly-model

The spend-or-hold model is weekly-only

The worth-it calculator compares quota restored against the weekly date you restart. It does not score the 5-hour window.

A full banked redemption also resets 5-hour usage. If 5-hour usage is the real bottleneck, the weekly-only model will understate the benefit.

codex-reset --troubleshoot

If the reset is missing or redemption looks wrong

The grant is not visible

Check the correct account or workspace, the offer's qualifying action, eligibility checks, and the displayed grant timing.

Usage did not refresh

Confirm that you redeemed a full banked reset rather than merely receiving it, then re-open the usage summary and /status.

The expiry looks different

Use the date shown in the offer or account. Milestone, compensation, referral, and one-time grants can have different terms.

June 11 referral launch

On June 11, eligible Plus and Pro users received one free reset at launch and could send referrals; an eligible recipient's first Codex message granted both people a banked reset, with a 30-day window documented for that launch cohort.

Current referral terms

Referral banked resets must normally be used within 30 days unless the offer says otherwise; reward, eligibility, cap, and expiry remain offer-specific.

codex-reset --faq

Banked reset questions, answered

Does receiving a banked reset refresh my usage?

No. The reset is saved until you redeem it. A grant and a quota refresh are separate events.

What changes when I redeem a full banked reset?

Both the 5-hour and weekly usage windows reset, and the weekly reset date moves to roughly seven days after redemption.

Do all banked resets expire after 30 days?

Do not generalize that rule. Referral banked resets normally use 30 days unless the offer says otherwise; other grants use the expiry shown by the offer or account.

Can this page see how many resets I have?

No. It stores only the next or earliest expiry you enter in this browser and never reads your OpenAI account.

Should I spend it now?

That depends on your remaining weekly usage, natural rollover, expiry, and whether 5-hour usage is the bottleneck. The calculator models only the weekly trade-off.
